(A traveler note)
I got a chance to visit salubrious city “Tiruchur”, Cultural city of Kerala for my team mate Anju’s wedding. One day before her marriage (Feb 2, 2013), I reached Tiruchur. I went there with a lot of expectation and full of exuberance. Tiruchur people are really calm, respectful and lovely too, as like Coimbatore and Pollachi. Especially auto drivers are treating people with at most respect. Though city seems to be busy, everyone is relaxed and giving most care in what they are doing. Especially auto drivers are too good and paying very much attention while driving.
City has its unique feature in its location which one couldn’t find anywhere. City has one very big circle called “Thekkinkad Maithanam” and it has one outer circle. The whole city is located in and out of this circle. So, all the important places are easily reachable, since it is located in a circular form. Most of the people are Christians and Hindus and very less percentage of Muslims.
Tiruchur has some important cultural institutions, Hindu temples, famous churches, literature promoting institutions, art institutions, zoo, park etc. I went to almost all the important places. I have written below the each place vividly.
Vadakunathan temple:
This 13 century old Shiva temple is located in the main city. Temple entrance is not attractive but inside it is terribly beautiful. One could get the vibration soon after one enters into the temple. You could smell ghee throughout this temple. Shiva linga made up of Ghee is the main god which said to be “Nei Linga”. Main god is Lord Shiva and other gods like Ayyapan, Vettaikaran, Gopala Krishnan etc are there individually. I would give 1st rating to this temple in Tiruchur. J
Lady of dolorous Church:
This is the very biggest church in Asia. People locally call it as “Puthenpalli Church”. Very first time in my life, I entered in to a Church and to my goodness my first Church experience itself an excellent one. When you view from outside the Church, you will not gaze off your eyes. Pure white color with attractive building design makes everyone fond of this Church. Inside roof of the Church also designed in a lovely way. During my visit there, a Christian marriage was going on. I spent about one hour there to see the weddingJ. It was awesome marriage celebration. Behind the Church there is a place called “Bible tower”, where One need to pay Rs.15/- and can go into the top of the Church tower. At the top, one can easily get the glimpses of the whole Tiruchur city. It was an excellent experience to see the city at the Bible tower top. They have lift facility to take us to the top of the tower. When you come down, we need to use stairs and inside the tower they have made natural painting, oil painting and wood pictures to depict the various life stages of Lord Jesus Christ. I would rate this Church No.2 good place in Tiruchur. J
Lurthe cathedral church:
This is another important Church in Tiruchur. I spent very little time over there. As I don’t know much about Christian people’s way of prayer and all, everything looked very new to me. One very interesting thing about Church is that there is one prayer room in the underground of Church. Where they conduct special prayers and local people claiming that many miracles are happening like healing of diseases etc.
Kalamandalam Tiruchur:
This is very interesting place if you are very fond of arts. This Kalamandalam institution conducts various training courses on Kerala special arts like Kathakali, Koodiyattam, Mohiniyattam, Thullal, Panchavadyam, Classical Music (Vocal), Mridangam here. People from all over India are staying and learning here.
Tiruchur Zoo and Museum:
This Zoo and Museum are neither interesting nor attractive. Very poor maintenance made the Zoo looks abysmally bad. But best hotspot for loversJ. Museum has some antique collection like very old idols, ancient war equipments etc. I would suggest, don’t go to this place unless you have your darling. J
Paramaekavu temple and Thiruvembaddy temple:
Paramaekavu temple’s main god is Bhagavathi, wife of Lord Shiva. It is locating exactly opposite to the Vadakunathan temple. Hindu People used to conduct marriages here. Very small temple but environment is really good. Thiruvembaddy temple main god is Lord Krishna in infant form and another main god is again Bhagavathi. One must go to both of these temples.
Important festival:
Very important festival in Tiruchur is “Tiruchur Pooram”. Three temples are fully responsible for this festival namely Vadakunathan temple, Paramaekavu temple and Thiruvembaddy temple. Every year during April month, Pooram festival is being conducted. I heard that a lot of elephants will be used and display colorful fire work during the celebration. I plan to see this one of the biggest festival on the earth in near future.
Over all my experience in Tiruchur was awesome and had unforgettable memories. Planning to visit Tiruchur again along with my family members.
Lovingly
Mohan
